Unamuno: el poeta del pensamiento.Ángeles Cerón, Francisco de Jesús, Luis Álvarez Castro, Ángeles de León, José Miguel, Durán Ugalde, Carla María, Nazzareno Fioraso, Gemma Gordo Piñar, Hernández Moreno, Jesús Carlos, Claudio Maíz, Moreno Romo, Juan Carlos, Orejudo Pedrosa, Riccardo Pace, Carrillo Juárez & Carmen Dolores (eds.) - 2018 - Querétaro (México): Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro.
If Unamuno had been able to choose how to be remembered, he would have wanted him to be a poet. This book wants to do justice to that happy possibility. But above all because Unamuno was a poet in the highest sense: he was while writing the same essay as a novel, or theater, letter or verse, and he was also a poet when he passionately lived all the facets of his intense existence. His intellectual work was poetic and his (...)

This paper situates the problem of defeaters in a larger debate about the source of normative authority. It argues in favour of a constructivist account of defeasibility, which appeals to the justificatory role of moral principles. The argument builds upon the critique of two recent attempts to deal with defeasibility: first, a particularist account, which disposes of moral principles on the ground that reasons are holistic; and second, a proceduralist view, which addresses the problem of defeaters by distinguishing between provisional (...)

Horror politicus w XX wieku. Próba interpretacji wybranych wątków Carla Schmitta teorii partyzanta.Paweł Kaczorowski - 2020 - Civitas. Studia Z Filozofii Polityki 17:135-161.
According to Carl Schmitt, the phenomenon of the political has different forms. These forms can be distinguished based on different possible relationships between political action and the state. This article presents the history of what Schmitt refers to as the phenomenon of partisanship. Partisanship is a specific form of politics, established in the early ninetieth century, which has gradually expanded its presence. Partisan activity is characterized by totality, which has evolved to become the dominant component of political action over time, (...)

Stałe i płynne. Od kategorii państwa do figury wielkiej przestrzeni w dyskursie Carla Schmitta.Barbara Barysz - 2020 - Civitas. Studia Z Filozofii Polityki 26:111-149.
The paper is devoted to the analysis of the evolution of the basic political figures of Carl Schmitt’s philosophical discourse from the 1920s to the early 1940s. It emphasized the importance of the transition from a statist perspective of an ordered, territorially closed state understood as the basic area of political implementation to a dynamic formation based on the category of Volk – the Great Space, which is devoid of defining characteristics in the form of territorial borders and stable legal (...)

    Jedinečnost v zájmu vědy: hermeneutické poznámky ke konjekturálnímu paradigmatu.Jan Motal - 2013 - E-Logos 20 (1):1-12.

  8. A Paraconsistent Model of Vagueness.Z. Weber - 2010 - Mind 119 (476):1025-1045.
Vague predicates, on a paraconsistent account, admit overdetermined borderline cases. I take up a new line on the paraconsistent approach, to show that there is a close structural relationship between the breakdown of soritical progressions, and contradiction. Accordingly, a formal picture drawn from an appropriate logic shows that any cut-off point of a vague predicate is unidentifiable, in a precise sense. A paraconsistent approach predicts and explains many of the most counterintuitive aspects of vagueness, in terms of a more fundamental (...)

Should post-trial provision of beneficial experimental interventions be mandatory in developing countries?Z. Zong - 2008 - Journal of Medical Ethics 34 (3):188-192.
The need for continuing provision of beneficial experimental interventions after research is concluded remains a controversial topic in bioethics for research. Based on the principle of beneficence, justice as reciprocity, concerns about exploitation and fair benefits, participants should be able to have continuing access to benefits beyond the research period. However, there is no consensus about whether or not post-trial provision of beneficial interventions should be mandatory for participants from developing countries. This paper summarises recommendations from international and national guidelines. (...)

Fathering, Class, and Gender: A Comparison of Physicians and Emergency Medical Technicians.Naomi Gerstel & Carla Shows - 2009 - Gender and Society 23 (2):161-187.
Using a multimethod approach, this article examines the link between class and masculinities by comparing the way two groups—professional men and working-class men —practice fatherhood. First, the authors show that these two groups practice different types of masculinity as they engage in different kinds of fatherhood. Physicians emphasize “public fatherhood,” which entails attendance at public events but little involvement in the daily care of their children. In contrast, EMTs are not only involved in their children's public events but also emphasize (...)

Niniejszy tekst podejmuje kwestię bogów i bohaterów mitów greckich, odnosząc ją do obecnej w psychologii głębi koncepcji archetypów i nieświadomości zbiorowej. Główny cel badań sprowadza się tym samym do bacznego przyjrzenia się potencjalnej korelacji pomiędzy zewnętrznymi w rozumieniu starożytnego Greka postaciami bogów i bogiń, a wewnętrznymi przejawami nieświadomości zbiorowej, które mogą stanowić – według Carla Gustava Junga – istotę antycznych bóstw. Ponadto został poddany namysłowi problem wpływu „wewnętrznych bogów” na sposób myślenia, odczuwania i działania jednostki, wpływu zarówno pozytywnego, jak (...)

    The Evolutionary Origins of Consciousness: Suggesting a Transition Marker.Z. Z. Bronfman & S. Ginsburg - 2016 - Journal of Consciousness Studies 23 (9-10):7-34.
We suggest an approach to studying consciousness that focuses on its evolutionary origins. The proposed framework is inspired by the study of the transition from inanimate matter to life, which proved extremely useful for understanding what 'life' entails. We follow the theoretical and methodological scheme put forward by Tibor Ganti, who suggested a marker for the transition to life -- an evolved feature that is sufficient for ascribing dynamic persistence to a minimal living system and that can serve as a (...)

Uncoupling Meat From Animal Slaughter and Its Impacts on Human-Animal Relationships.Marina Sucha Heidemann, Carla Forte Maiolino Molento, Germano Glufk Reis & Clive Julian Christie Phillips - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Slaughter sets the debate about what is acceptable to do to animals at an extremely low bar. Recently, there has been considerable investment in developing cell-based meat, an alternative meat production process that does not require the raising and slaughtering of animals, instead using muscle cells cultivated in a bioreactor. We discuss the animal ethics impacts of cell-based and plant-based meat on human-animal interactions from animal welfare and rights perspectives, focusing on industrial meat production scenarios. Our hypothesis is that the (...)

  19. Simulating polyadic modal logics by monadic ones.George Goguadze, Carla Piazza & Yde Venema - 2003 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 68 (2):419-462.
We define an interpretation of modal languages with polyadic operators in modal languages that use monadic operators (diamonds) only. We also define a simulation operator which associates a logic $\Lambda^{sim}$ in the diamond language with each logic Λ in the language with polyadic modal connectives. We prove that this simulation operator transfers several useful properties of modal logics, such as finite/recursive axiomatizability, frame completeness and the finite model property, canonicity and first-order definability.

© 2019 The Author. Background: The phenomenon of being 'with woman' is fundamental to midwifery as it underpins its philosophy, relationships and practices. There is an identified gap in knowledge around the 'with woman' phenomenon from the perspective of midwives providing care in a variety of contexts. As such, the aim of this study was to explore the experiences of being 'with woman' during labour and birth from the perspective of midwives' working in a model where care is provided by (...)

Preconception care: A parenting protocol. A moral inquiry into the responsibilities of future parents towards their future children.Z. E. E. der & Inez de Beaufort - 2011 - Bioethics 25 (8):451-457.
In the Netherlands fertility doctors increasingly formulate protocols, which oblige patients to quit their unhealthy lifestyle before they are admitted to IVF procedures. We argue that moral arguments could justify parenting protocols that concern all future parents. In the first part we argue that want-to-be parents have moral responsibilities towards their future children to prevent them from harm by diminishing or eliminating risk factors before as well as during the pregnancy. This is because of the future children's potential to become (...)

We argue that there are names with de se contents and that they are theoretically fruitful. De se names serve to challenge intuitive and otherwise plausible orthodoxies such as Stalnaker's view of communication and Bayesian views of belief update. These implications are also significant for those already sympathetic to the irreducibility of de se content.

This book is a contribution to the research community towards thinking and reflecting on what Responsible Machine Translation really means. It was conceived as an open dialogue across disciplines, from philosophy to law, with the ultimate goal of providing a wide spectrum of topics to reflect on. It covers aspects related to the development of Machine translation systems, as well as its use in different scenarios, and the societal impact that it may have. This text appeals to students and researchers (...)

Reflections on the Use of Autovideography in an Undergraduate Education Context.Russell Butson & Carla Thomson - 2011 - Journal of Research Practice 7 (2):Article D1.
In a recent study of undergraduates' use of information and communication technologies to support their academic work, we asked students to make video recordings of their personal study sessions. Our motivation was to capture their study practice as it occurred rather than relying solely on self-reports of their perceived or remembered practice. As we worked with the participant-created videos, we recognised their uniqueness as sources of evidence and their potential to reveal situated and authentic data. In this article, we have (...)

The paper deals with the problem of human freedom and the freedom of person, as seen by Russian personalist philosophers of the 20th century in their Parisian exile - N. Berdyaev and N. Lossky, both of them influenced by F. M. Dostoyevsky. Their philosophical conceptions derive from existentialism, which is the existential-experiential source of the modern personalism in general. The Russian personalists saw human freedom as one of the absolute values and included its problematic together with the paradoxes of the (...)
